Worth the work

by Rockford Master's Commission

Volunteers from Rockford Master's Commission work with OBI to fix up a house devastated by flooding in Atlanta, Georgia.

ATLANTA, Ga. —Anthony and Myrica’s house is coming along very nicely. After having multiple delays yesterday and having to work a night shift, we are back on task and caught up with the other projects. Today we have been working very diligently to get where we need to be. The different projects we have been tackling today are mudding and sanding the walls, finishing the drywall, and starting to prime and paint.

I have to say that I am very pleased with our team. With a nice mix of Master’s Commission students from Rockford and Atlanta, there is a lot of diversity in our team. We are clicking very well and just becoming more of a team each day. It is interesting to see the common ground we have with each other and how each of our personalities brings something different to our team. It is nice to see us come together as one and do something as selfless as this project.

The Rockford Master's Commission team joined Operation Blessing to help families in Atlanta.

This is one of the biggest growing experiences that God has allowed me to go through in a long time. I am constantly seeing where I don’t have it together through this project, whether it means needing to ask for help more or needing to be more outgoing with people who I don’t know. I am also learning a lot about focusing on the process rather than the reward. God is teaching me that it takes work to get to the end result, but once I get there it will all be worth it.
