HAITI – After Hurricane Sandy destroyed an estimated 70 percent of the crops in southern Haiti, Operation Blessing teams distributed sapling fruit trees to aid in the long-term restoration of agriculture in the region.
Ensuring the trees reached farmers in the most need, OBI teams designated 150 breadfruit saplings for those who were still unreachable due to severe flooding following Sandy. Continue reading A tree grows in Haiti

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti-Our water truck is out making deliveries to camps in Port-au-Prince. I caught up with them at Camp Mega 7 (next to Villa Betame). Camp Mega 7 has 4,000 residents and was in serious need of deliveries. The local municipal water supply isn’t working and even if it was, the water isn’t safe–especially after a storm like Isaac. More than 400,000 Haitians are still without adequate shelter more than two years after the earthquake, and this storm could easily shred their meager shelters. HAITI – As Isaac threatens to hit Haiti this Friday as a Category 1 hurricane, Operation Blessing teams are staging preparations in both Haiti and the U.S. to brace for the storm’s impact.
Our greatest concern right now is the storm’s immediate projected path, taking it right across Haiti. If the storm strengthens to a hurricane as forecasted, it could shred the meager shelters of hundreds of thousands of Haitians who are still camped in tent cities, as well as flood the low-lying areas where the tent cities are located. Port-au-Prince, Haiti – Lakay ZB Resto Plus is the latest project at the Operation Blessing-supported Zanmi Beni Children’s Home in Haiti. The name translates to “House of ZB Restaurant and More.”
